This article will provide a timeline of gaming consoles, highlighting the most important points in their history.

1970’s – the beginning 

1971: The first gaming console is released. The Magnavox Odyssey is primitive by today’s standards but allows players to use plastic overlays on a television screen to create rudimentary graphics.

1972: The Atari 2600 is released and quickly becomes one of the most popular gaming consoles. It features classics like Pac-Man and Space Invaders that are still enjoyed by gamers today.

The 1980’s

1985: The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is released and quickly becomes a best seller. It features iconic games like Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda that are still played by gamers today.

The 1990’s

1991: The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) is released and becomes just as popular as its predecessor. It features classic games like Street Fighter II and Super Mario World that continue to be enjoyed by gamers around the world.

1996: Sony releases the PlayStation, one of the most popular gaming consoles ever made. It features classics like Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil that are still enjoyed by gamers today.

The noughties 

2005: Microsoft releases the Xbox 360, which has become very popular with gamers. It features games such as Gears of War and Halo 3 that are still enjoyed by players today.

2013: The next generation of gaming consoles is released, starting with the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft. These consoles feature improved graphics and capabilities and new ways to interact with games, including motion tracking and voice recognition.

In 2015. Sony released the PlayStation 4 Pro. The PlayStation 4 Pro can play games in 4K resolution and HDR quality. Some popular titles that are compatible with this console are Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
