Getting Us Ready: Why Our School Is Preparing Us for the Age of AI

Your Mission
Make a genuine promotional piece explaining why our school is preparing us for the age of AI.
By the end of this challenge, you’ll produce one real, finished promotional piece, a video, poster, presentation, article or podcast, that makes the case for why digital and AI literacy matters and how our school is genuinely helping us build it. Every step feeds into your final piece.

Step 1

The Real Numbers

✏️ Paper first
We are learning to understand real, genuine statistics about how AI is changing jobs.
Example real statistics: a major global report projects 170 million new jobs created by 2030, alongside 92 million jobs displaced. Separate research shows some jobs already have over 70% of their daily tasks affected by AI, while others are affected by under 10%.
Your task: Grab paper. Look at the real statistics your teacher shares with you. Pick the ONE that surprises you most, and write one sentence explaining why.
  • 5 to 8 minutes.
I can state at least one real statistic about how AI is changing jobs.
→ This becomes required evidence for your final piece in Step 5

Step 2

Why Does This Actually Matter to Me?

️ Talk it through
We are learning to connect real statistics to a genuine reason digital and AI literacy matters. Your task: Talk with a partner: using the statistic from Step 1, explain why building digital and AI skills genuinely matters for someone your age, right now, not just in the future.
  • 5 to 8 minutes.
I can explain why digital and AI literacy genuinely matters, using real evidence.
→ This becomes required evidence for your final piece in Step 5

Step 3

What Has Our School Actually Done?

️ Hands-on reflection
We are learning to identify specific, genuine things our school is doing to help us prepare. Your task: Look back across this whole series: the survey, the Canva poster, decoding your feed, the future jobs challenge. List at least 2 specific things this programme has actually had you do to build these skills.
  • 5 to 8 minutes.
I can name at least 2 specific, real things our school is doing to help us prepare.
→ This becomes required evidence for your final piece in Step 5

Step 4

What’s Genuinely Different Here?

️ Talk it through
We are learning to articulate what’s genuinely different about this approach compared to a normal lesson. Your task: Talk with a partner: what’s one thing about this programme that’s genuinely felt different from a normal lesson? Be specific, not just ‘it was fun.’
  • 5 to 8 minutes.
I can explain one genuine, specific way this approach felt different.
→ This strengthens your evidence for Step 5

Step 5

Make Your Case

✏️ Plan on paper, then make it
We are learning to combine all three required elements into one genuine, persuasive promotional piece.
Example opening line: “170 million new jobs are coming by 2030, and here’s exactly how our school is making sure we’re ready for them.”
Before you touch a device: plan your opening line on paper, and check you genuinely have all three required elements ready: your statistic, your reason literacy matters, and your specific school example. Then choose ONE format: Article (350 to 450 words, around 45 min), Presentation (4 to 5 slides, around 45 min), Poster (one page, 50 to 60 words, around 45 min), Podcast (90 to 120 seconds, around 60 min), or Video (90 to 120 seconds, around 75 min). Your finished piece MUST include: a real statistic about changing jobs, why digital and AI literacy is needed, and why our school is genuinely helping you prepare.
Article
350 to 450 words
around 45 minutes
Presentation
4 to 5 slides, 25 to 30 words per slide max
around 45 minutes
Poster
one page, roughly 50 to 60 words total
around 45 minutes
Podcast
90 to 120 seconds of actual audio
around 60 minutes
Video
90 to 120 seconds
around 75 minutes
  • 45 to 75 minutes, depending on the format you choose.
I can combine a real statistic, a genuine reason literacy matters, and a specific school example into one finished promotional piece.

Step 6

Reflect, Apply, Look Forward

️ Talk, quietly and calmly
We are learning to close this series with genuine reflection on the case we’ve just made. Your task: Talk through these with someone, or yourself. Reflect: Did making this case change how you feel about the programme so far? Apply: Would you genuinely want this shown to your parents? Look forward: What’s one thing about the pathways ahead you’re now genuinely looking forward to?
  • 3 to 5 minutes. This is the close of the whole series.
I can reflect honestly on the case I’ve made and what’s genuinely ahead.

Educator / Parent Notes

Age, Stage and Prior Learning: S1-S3. Works best as the final challenge in this series, since it draws on the earlier challenges, though it can stand alone. This piece may genuinely be usable as real promotional content, consider that when reviewing final pieces.
Before You Start: Have the real statistics in Step 1 ready to share, either printed or displayed, since accuracy matters here more than in earlier challenges given this may be shared externally.
How to Open This: "You've built a survey, made a real design, decoded your feed, and thought seriously about the future. Now it's time to make the case, with real evidence, for why all of this actually matters."
Scheduling: Roughly 60 to 75 minutes total, this is the most substantial piece in the series, budget real time for it, ideally as its own session.
If a Pupil Gets Stuck: If a pupil struggles to name specific school actions in Step 3, prompt with the actual programme name and the specific challenges they've completed this series.
For Fast Finishers: Ask fast finishers to think about who else, beyond their own class, might genuinely benefit from seeing this piece.
Marking Guidance: This piece MUST include all three required elements: a real statistic, a genuine explanation of why literacy matters, and at least one specific, real example of what the school is doing. Mark against all three being genuinely present, not just polish.
