Pitch Your Business

Your Mission
Pitch a business that has been shaped by evidence, experiments and numbers — not just enthusiasm.

Start with the story and strip away anything the audience does not need.
Step 1

What Is the Story of the Business?

✏️ Build the spine · 8–10 mins
We are learning to structure a business pitch around problem, evidence, solution and opportunity.

A pitch is not a list of everything you know. It is a sequence that helps the audience understand why the business deserves attention.

Your Task
  1. Write six headings: Problem → Customer → Evidence → Solution → Business Model → Ask.
  2. Add one sentence under each using your work from earlier challenges.
  3. Remove any section that repeats information.
  4. Circle the strongest piece of evidence in the whole pitch.
I can organise a business pitch around a clear logical story.
→ This gives you the narrative structure for the final pitch.

Step 2

Evidence Beats Adjectives

️ Edit the claims · 8–10 mins
We are learning to replace vague pitch language with specific evidence.

Words such as ‘innovative’, ‘huge market’ and ‘game-changing’ are easy to say. Evidence is harder to dismiss.

Your Task
  1. Highlight five claims in your draft.
  2. For each, ask What evidence supports this?
  3. Replace at least three adjectives with a customer quote, test result, number, comparison or observable fact.
  4. Mark any claim that still needs verification.
I can support pitch claims with evidence and label uncertainty honestly.
→ This makes the final pitch more credible.

Adapt the pitch to a real audience and prepare for challenge.
Step 3

Know the Audience and the Ask

Choose your route · 10–15 mins
We are learning to adapt a pitch to what a specific listener needs to decide.

A teacher, investor, customer, partner and grant funder listen for different evidence.

Your Task
  1. Choose your pitch audience.
  2. Complete one route.
  3. Write the three questions that audience is most likely to ask.
  4. Create one clear ask: feedback, pilot, partnership, permission, funding or another next step.
⚡ Quick Track

Choose one audience and review a credible pitch guide or example. Identify three things that audience needs to know before saying yes.

Dig Deeper

Compare two audiences — for example customer and investor, or school leader and funder. Rewrite your opening and ask for each, then choose one for the final pitch.

I can adapt pitch emphasis and evidence to a specific audience.
→ This gives your final pitch a real purpose.

Step 4

Handle the Hard Question

️ Objection practice · 10–12 mins
We are learning to respond to challenging questions without becoming defensive.

A strong pitch becomes more credible when the founder can explain risk and uncertainty.

Your Task
  1. Write five difficult questions about your idea.
  2. Choose the hardest one.
  3. Answer using what we know / what we do not know / what we would test next.
  4. Practise the answer in under 30 seconds.
I can respond to a challenging business question clearly and honestly.
→ This prepares you for the question-and-answer part of the final pitch.

Step 5

Deliver the Business Pitch

✏️ Refine · Present · 35–50 mins
We are learning to communicate a business opportunity clearly, credibly and persuasively.

Your final pitch should connect the whole series: problem, evidence, tested solution, business model, numbers and next step.

Your Task
  1. Use the pitch spine from Step 1.
  2. Include at least one customer/problem evidence point, one test finding and one key financial number.
  3. State one risk or uncertainty.
  4. Finish with a clear ask.
  5. Choose one output below.

Step 6

Reflect, Apply, Look Forward

️ Final reflection · 8–10 mins
We are learning to evaluate how the business changed through evidence, modelling and feedback.

The aim of the series is not to prove you have a perfect business. It is to show that you can move from problem to evidence, experiment, model, numbers and communication.

Your Task
  1. Answer the reflection prompts.
  2. Record one question or objection you received or expect to receive.
  3. Choose the next experiment you would run if continuing the venture.
Reflect

Apply

Look Forward

What new opportunity or threat might AI create for this business model over the next few years?

I can explain how evidence changed my business idea across the series.

Educator / Parent Notes

Age, Stage and Prior Learning: Designed as the advanced S1–S3 capstone. It works best after the earlier series challenges but can be completed with a teacher-provided business case.
Before You Start: Treat pitching as evidence-based communication rather than performance confidence. Learners should not be penalised for quieter delivery if the argument is clear and credible.
How to Open This: Show two openings: one full of adjectives and one with a specific problem/evidence point. Ask which earns trust faster.
Scheduling: Steps 1–4 need 35–45 minutes. Step 5 may need 35–50 minutes including rehearsal, so multiple sessions may be appropriate.
If a Pupil Gets Stuck: Provide a six-part pitch template and allow recorded delivery. Limit the pitch to one audience and one clear ask.
For Fast Finishers: Run a short Q&A panel, ask learners to create two audience-specific pitch versions or require an evidence appendix.
Marking Guidance: Look for logical story, evidence-backed claims, consistency with earlier business model/numbers, clear ask, honest treatment of risk and ability to respond to challenge.
