Encourage learners to watch the first 60 seconds of several MrBeast videos analytically rather than as entertainment. Pause and note exactly what happens in the first five seconds, the first ten seconds, and the first thirty seconds. The shift from passive viewer to active analyst is the core learning experience of Steps 1 and 2.
Strong responses will name specific techniques and give specific examples, not just say "he makes it exciting." Look for learners who can distinguish between different types of hook (curiosity gap, visual spectacle, social proof, financial stakes) and explain why each works psychologically.
Support: Focus on thumbnail analysis only using a provided set of five MrBeast thumbnails. Provide a structured analysis template with prompts for each design element. Extension: Compare MrBeast's hook and thumbnail techniques with a creator in a different genre such as a cooking channel or educational channel and analyse what changes and why.
Learners producing content in Step 5 should be reminded of school and platform guidelines around sharing content publicly. The content piece can be produced for assessment purposes without being published.
